Tilting Chimney
To leave your home one day and find that your chimney seems to be leaning away from your house is a scary and overwhelming discovery. When the foundation beneath your chimney can no longer support its weight or foundation settlement issues are affecting the structure of your home, your chimney can tilt away from your home.
You might find cracks where the chimney’s base joins the home’s foundation. There might be visible damage to the roof where flashing meets the chimney. Another telltale sign is when gaps between the chimney and home have been filled with caulk, foam, or mortar.
If you found your chimney leaning away from your home, don’t hesitate. Call Regional Foundation & Crawl Space Repair to get it fixed permanently.
Repairing Tilting or Leaning Chimneys
Regional Foundation & Crawl Space Repair can install a helical pier system to fix tilting or leaning chimneys. A helical pier system will join your chimney’s foundation with stable supporting soil or bedrock far below your home. This connection will prevent your foundation from shifting due to weak supporting soils and keep it in place permanently.
Each pier features helical blades that allow each pier to be screwed deep into the ground until stable strata are reached. Once in place, a bracket is attached to the pier and mounted on the footing of the chimney’s foundation. After piers are installed, we can attempt to restore your chimney to its original position.
